All Monsters May Be Human

I was talking to a dear friend last night about a video where humans were cuddling and kissing wild animals, like alligators, bears, and big cats. We talked about how crazy they were, but then I said, “Ya know, I think I have about as much trust in wild animals as I do in humans these days.” Of course, in the wake of what’s happened in Manchester, its certainly disheartening to think, that we as humans would create such misery for one another.  Not just on the grand scale of terrorism either, but it got me to thinking about this documentary series I’ve been watching on Netflix about this priest that molested hundreds of children that trusted him and turned to him for help. Which led me to think about all the horrible things that humans do to other humans. At least when I’m face to face with a wild animal, I know there’s a risk of him eating my face or ripping my limbs from my body. Then there are the humans that we love and/or trust…parents, family members, friends, lovers, authorities…we put our faith in them and open our hearts. When they betray us that broken trust is devastating.
We used to tell our children to trust police officers and clergy members, but I can’t help but wonder how many people would tell their children that now? I know I certainly wouldn’t. I’m not even sure I could suggest that they trust anyone but me. Luckily I do not have children, for I’m sure I’d pass my jaded mistrust on to them and it would only make life more difficult.  I don’t recommend that people go about not trusting anyone and I do try very hard to remain positive. After-all, in the aftermath of the Manchester bombing, there were a lot of people that offered help to those affected…whether they were emergency workers, injured, or simply unable to get home. Again, its those people that remind me that while all monsters may be human, so are the truest angels.

When Did It Happen?

Record stores, newspapers, phone booths…they all seem rather obsolete these days. Technology has hurled us so far beyond these things, that all three are in the palm of hands.
Yes, from time to time you’ll stumble across a used record store and the random DJ that actually spins vinyl, or even the purest that insists nothing will ever sound better. However, on average most of us are listening to MP3s. I don’t even own a CD player anymore with the exception of the one in my eleven year old car that I still love as much as the day I got it. However, my RL husband (eventually ex) got a new car last year and it came with a USB port for MPs rather than a CD player. Seems CD players are becoming antiquated, too.
My father started a hobby magazine for radio control airplanes in the 80s. It did quite well, I was even fortunate enough to be assistant editor on a few issues. However, as the internet grew, his magazine suffered. Bloggers and websites quickly replaced subscriptions to his hobby magazine. Eventually, he sold his magazine to someone much younger that took it straight to the internet. That was the end of his magazine. Similarly, our local newspaper was forced to close their doors and re-route the issues through another city’s newspaper office. We only get two issues on the local stands now….Wednesday and Sunday. Bigger publications may still be in circulation, but even they have learned to incorporate the internet and offer a new type of subscription service there. Even books have moved to devices, they save us space and such, right? I tried those electronic readers, but I can’t do it. I need to feel of the paper in my hands, the smell of the ink as I crack it open to read another chapter.
Phones…whoa…land lines and phone booths are fading just as fast. I can’t remember the last time I saw a working phone booth. We let go of our land line years ago. Why pay for another phone line when each person in the house has their own personal cell phone?
I could go on and on about this subject as I’m sure anyone over 40 can. I’m just going to offer you a link to a song that really sums it up far better than I ever could. He’s an artist I was introduced to a little over a year ago and I quickly became a huge fan. His name is Watsky and the song is Tiny Glowing Screens Part 1. I encourage you to check him out for more than just this song while I try to wrap my head around it all.

Everything is Changing

“Everything is changing,
And I’ve been here for too long
Going through the same things
I’ve been hurting too long,
Got to move on
Say I-I-I-I can’t do this anymore
If everything is changing
And I know, yeah, you gotta let go”
Sigma ft Paloma Faith – Changing

dorothy phedora2

Life is full of change. Every single day something impacts us to alter the course of our day, our life…every little thing that happens to us impacts us on some level. Sometimes it takes us a while to figure out what is working and what isn’t. From there, we make conscious decisions to change. This is life, right? Even when the changes swirl around us in a way that we feel we’ve lost all control, we still have the ground beneath our feet. If we crumple…if we fall…the ground is there to catch us. Its all just a matter of how far we fall and how hard, isn’t it?

dorothy phedora1

Collabor88 has returned and delivered us with some “lazy & chill” themed items that are simply breathtaking. While a lot of people in SL don’t understand the concept of being comfortable in a virtual world, I do and I for one want nothing more than to be lazy & chill, in both my worlds. Its not always an options, but at least in SL..not only can I look lazy & chill, but I can look fierce while doing it. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been that cute girl next door that looks adorable in her chillaxing clothes…I tend to look more like a homeless person. *laughs* While that is the theme, there’s nothing stopping you from grabbing some amazing threads and shoes to create you own look that isn’t lazy & chill at all. As soon as I saw the Andrea Jumpsuit from CandyDoll, I knew I had to have it and the Dorothy boots from Phedora are a perfect match, as both allow color options for the bow. To help you blend your look into a more cohesive one. I’m wishing you all a happy month of shopping and watch here for tons more goodies coming you way from across the grid.  ♥

Friday the 13th

“Very superstitious, writing on the wall
Very superstitious, ladders bout’ to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin’ glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don’t understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain’t the way”
~Stevie Wonder Superstition

I hadn’t really planned these photos for a Friday the 13th post, else there would be black cats, broken mirrors, and ladders involved. However, it has already been a most interesting and entertaining morning. I’ve never had particularly bad luck on Friday the 13th. One of my favorite people was born on a Friday the 13th. Some of the best moments in my life happened on Friday the 13th. And naturally, one cannot dismiss one of the most iconic horror movies of our time and our leading man Jason Voorhees. So, needless to say, I am excited about today. For me and my dark twisted little mind, it tends to be more of a fun and victorious day rather than something scary and ominous.

mba-uc-dress

I’m simply not a superstitious person, but I have certainly witnessed some crazy superstitions in my lifetime, particularly in the Southern U.S. where I’ve spent the majority of my life. (Don’t judge me!) Of course, the basics are black cats crossing your path, broken mirrors, walking under ladders, seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding, etc. I won’t bother with the debunking or revealing the history of these superstitions, nor will I poke fun at those that truly believe. (Okay, I will be laughing at you, but I won’t tease you…much.)

mba-uc-dress2

Some of the crazier superstitions I’ve been warned of over the course of my life have included, but are not limited to the following:
1. Do not set your purse on the floor or you’ll go broke. (Well, that explains everything!)
2. Never sign financial documents, particularly checks, with red ink. (More impending financial doom!)
3. If you look a dog in the eye while it poops you’ll get a pimple in your eye. (I’m thinking you got too close!)
4. Never let anyone sweep your feet or you’ll be single forever. (This is very popular with restaurant workers.)
5. If your primary hand itches, you’ve got money coming your way. If your other hand itches, you’ll be getting a parcel soon. (This one was popular with my Grandmother. I have to admit, I kinda like this one.)
6. Whatever you’re doing when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve is what you will be doing the most, the following year. (Looks like I’ll be sleeping most of 2017! WEWT!)
7. A wild bird in your house is a warning that someone you know is about to die.  (Yeah, probably the bird. I have two cats!)
8. If your ears are burning, someone is talking poorly of you. If they’re itching, someone is speaking nicely of you. (This one amuses me. I don’t know why.)

mba-uc-4

What I do know is that I’m a very lucky and sometimes unlucky girl, but I do not believe any of it is associated with superstitions. Whether you’re superstitious or not, I hope that this Friday the 13th you will find lots of great deals during your shopping excursions (cuz we all know you’re gonna shop in SL today) and that any ‘luck’ that finds its way to you is good. May Linden Labs servers stay vigilant, may your internet be strong, and  may you suffer not at the hands of lag! *giggles* Yes, it really is that sort of morning for me.

Happy Friday the 13th!!!  XOXO
Oh and for an added bonus, I’ve been told we’re under a full moon, too!

Shadows

“Memories of shadow’s haunt me,
From the years when I was young,
Things that used to terrify me,
Are the things, That I’ve become”
~Yelawolf’s Shadows ft Joshua Hedley

shadows-insert1

This song was released in perfect time for the Halloween holiday and as haunting as the music is, the lyrics are equally haunting. They inspired me to stop and just think about how many things I said I’d never be, yet here I am those very things. Kinda makes me wonder if the reason things that used to terrify me where sort of an intuitive look at my future and my mortality. Although, I cannot remember a time that I was afraid to die. I’m not a thrill seeker, mind you. I’ve just simply never been afraid to die, which to some seems particularly strange because I am not the least bit religious.

Anyway, its a great song and I hope you’ll give it a listen. Perhaps you can listen as you wander about the Bloody Horror Fair, because if there’s any event out there to get you in the mood for Halloween and all things deliciously dark…this is the one! I found myself wandering about there late last night. I stumbled across this super comfy hoodie from Annex that is very similar to one I had in RL years ago.
As always there are multiple events going on across the grid and this shopping junkie tries her best to find her way through them all!

Almost Wasn’t

At one point earlier this year, I was in a very dark place and if not for a few small miracles and the support of my amazing friends…well, I’m not proud to say it, but I was on the verge of giving up…the ultimate surrender. I went from one dark period of my life into a completely destructive period of my life. My friends watched helplessly, doing their best to support me, encourage me, and keep an eye on me. I know that my friend Tracy worried endlessly. Others were at a complete loss as to what to do with me. I pushed people away and withdrew into the darkest recesses of my mind. I did things I’m not proud of and I did things that were not only mentally unhealthy, but physically dangerous.
almost-wasnt2
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, because I recently survived the anniversary of the event that sent me into that downward spiral. I’m approaching a few more anniversaries in the upcoming months and I’m being flooded with some very dark memories. I’m actually hoping for some seriously cold weather this year. There’s something so therapeutic about long walks on a cold night with music blaring in my ears, even if I’m crying or wanting to scream.
But once again, I find myself extremely grateful for the amazing friends I have in Second Life, because despite the distance between us in the real world, they are favorite people and quite honestly, my lifeline. So, with my birthday being so amazing, I’m looking forward to sharing the holidays with them this year and perhaps this year they won’t seem quite so dark. I will not mourn the loss of this past years, nor will I mourn the darkness that consumed me. Instead, I shall embrace the light and dance in it. I hope you can all do the same. ♥

So, about this stuff…as always I’m an event addict and the latest round of TLC has really got some amazing finds….everything but the shoes and the claws in this look is from TLC. You rarely see me do that, because I try to mix and match from multiple events…but as soon as I saw this gorgeous hat, the hair, the necklace, the dress….well, I knew I had the perfect shoes already…and how could I resist? I couldn’t…you’re welcome. *winks*

Results

Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results. ~Willie Nelson

pma2.jpg
I first became aware of the power of positive thinking in high school. I had changed schools mid year in the eleventh grade. It was the first time I had ever changed schools mid year. My parents had always been very careful about that and despite that high school being the eighth school for me, it was still a first. To be honest, it was something I had always wanted to do and finally my parents divorce was allowing me this privilege. A few months after that another girl was transferred to my final public school and we were instant friends. She called it PMA, Positive Mental Attitude. I had never heard of it and it began to change my life.
Like most teenagers, I was convinced that my life was the most tragic of them all. Little did I know how truly sheltered my life had been. The amount abuse inflicted upon me by my father was merely a foundation for the damage I would do to myself later in life. It was nothing compared to what others would do to me later. Yet, in moment of lucidity, I would draw upon that PMA that learned about in high school and it ALWAYS brought change…positive change.
It’s not always easy to maintain that positive mental attitude, but its a lot easier than allowing yourself to be sucked into an undertow of negativity and toxicity. I write a lot about walking away from toxic people and taking control of your life to keep those negative people out. However, I know that I am my own worst critic and I believe that most of us are like that. There are boundless articles online about maintaining a positive attitude and the power of positive thinking. I won’t bother writing all of that out. I merely encourage you all to seek out at least one article about it and try it for yourself.

Now about these photos! I saw this hair on Flickr and had to hunt it down. Its such a fun style and so versatile. I femmed it up a bit, but imagine all the ways you could enhance a role play outfit. Which is what I started off doing by pairing it with this Feral dress by Cellar Door, but then my own style kicked in and before you know it…tadaaa…I had paired it with these adorable stockings and retro heels and yeah…here I am!
If you’re like me, you love to explore the grid and part of exploring is finding great places to take pictures. My friends Kobie and Kess had told me about Whole Wheat a while back and I even managed to get over there to take a photo about a week or two ago. However, they just moved and they’re in the process of setting up new scenes. I found a few that were extremely tempting, but tis the season for all things pumpkin so I jumped right into this lovely little fall scene. There are already several amazing scenes, so when you’re done reading that article, cuz I know you’re gonna…go check it out for yourself! ♥

The Beholder is You

People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves. Salma Hayek

beholder-front
I was scrolling through Flickr this morning and noticing all the different types of avatars. Yes, there are tons of clones, particularly certain mesh heads that are so distinguishable that you honestly cannot tell one avatar from another. I admit there are times that I look at other people’s avis and scrunch my nose, questioning their sanity, their eyesight, and sometimes its just a big WTF look on my face, but at the end of the day I can honestly appreciate all of the avatars out there…ok, most of them. No, I have no desire to parade MY avatar around with a huge ass, huge boobs, tiny waist and ankles. No, I have no desire to saunter to and fro with a stick figure avatar that makes the likes of Kate Moss look obese. Nor do I prefer my avatar to be too tall, too thick, too short, too skinny…wait…those are all opposing things. YES!
My avatar is the way I want it to look. Yours should be the way YOU want it to look. This is something I really came to terms with about a month and a half ago. I noticed that over the last year and a half my avatar literally gained weight. Not only did she gain weight, but she got taller! How did that happen? Well, I’ll tell you.
I let other people get in my head and convince me that their idea of beauty should be mine, too. I know that part of that stems from admiring the people who made these suggestions. The other part came from a lack of self esteem. So, a little weight here, a little nudge to my height there, plump up the tits a bit here, fatten that ass a bit there…and before I knew it…Sady wasn’t Sady at all. She was the compilation of suggestions and unsolicited advice.
With the help of another friend who knew me when my avatar was smaller and appreciated the look, I was able to tweak myself a lot closer to my roots. I’m really happy with the way my avatar looks now…although I have been considering a new head…*hangs her current one in shame.* In the meantime, I believe in myself and my avatar. I am the beholder of my beauty and I’m not changing for anyone other than myself ever again. So, the next time someone tells you they’re tired of seeing your face on every avatar across the grid? Tell them to sign off and go read a book, no one is forcing them to look at you. If someone tries to tell you that your toon is too fat, too skinny, too short, or too tall? Suggest that they go start a shape store, but to kindly leave your avatar alone. Unless you’re asking for advice with your avatar’s appearance I say tell them to all shut up…no one has the right to tell any of us what is beautiful and what isn’t, because we all know that one goofy looking dog that is soooo ugly its adorable. Now how do you think that happened?
Its your avatar, express yourself the way you want and BEHOLD YOUR OWN BEAUTY!
