There was a Facebook post recently from a blogger about other blogger styles. I even wrote about it in one of my blog posts, Opinions. There was a comment made in response to the original post that struck a chord with me as a blog manager. Its something that I believe a lot of bloggers honestly feel is true….and to some extent, I’d agree.

Once again, I’m not going to call out the person that said it. I’m not attacking nor fully supporting the statement. However, I also don’t want anyone else attacking this blogger for stating what they believe to be true.
As a blogger manager, I become quite familiar with a lot of bloggers. I currently represent four stores and there’s quite a bit of crossover. There are a handful of bloggers that are indeed on every team I manage. Mostly that is coincidence, but I’ll admit some are just damn fine bloggers that I know will meet their deadlines, present gorgeous photos, and provide a lot of exposure. Before you get riled up, think about this for a moment. Before Strawberry Singh became a Linden Lab employee, she was THE most sought out blogger on the grid, to my limited knowledge. She had become so popular as a blogger that she was not even required to follow the rules of most teams. Stores were simply elated to have Berry showcase them at all. With that said, there are other bloggers out there that while they might not be quite on the level of Strawberry Singh, they are damn fine bloggers with a massive following and extensive talent. Knowing that, wouldn’t you want them on YOUR team, if you had a store? If you said no, you’re a liar or a very poor decision maker. So, it might not necessarily be who you know, but who knows about you.
This works both ways. If you have a reputation of being difficult to work for, odds are you’re not likely to get offered as many positions out there. You see, blog managers often share their horror stories with one another. Just like bloggers talk about which blog managers are a pain in the arse or which brands demand too much.
I will add one more thing on this topic before I shut the hell up about it. I hire more bloggers I’ve never met or heard of than I do those that I’m familiar with. Simply for the fact that they provide an audience that is outside the normal circles in which I travel. For instance, I will take on an urban blogger for a casual store, simply because they can merge styles and show the brand in a whole new light. So, odds are, if you feel like you’re not getting jobs because you don’t know the blog managers, you might want to look at your history with other blog managers. It might not be about who you don’t know. It might be about who you pissed off. Jussayin.
Then again, it might have nothing to do with either of those things. There are soooo many reasons why bloggers aren’t chosen, you really need to try and not take rejections so personally. If you love blogging, then blog and stop worrying about who gives your stuff to blog. Just blog what you love, blog for yourself.
