So much fear

Puddin looked at her with curiosity as they strolled along the abandoned streets. The poor pup couldn’t understand what had happened to all the people that used to greet her with smiles, cutesy little words she didn’t understand, and all the petting. She missed the attention and was so confused about why everyone they saw stayed so far away. She knew she was clean, her momma bathed her regularly. She knew her momma smelled as sweet as ever. The only thing she smelled in the air that was different was fear. She’d never smelled so much fear in all her life, all three years of it, whatever that meant.
