Embrace the Love

I think sometimes we under estimate the power of virtual affection. I’m not talking about sex or even romance, despite what the photo suggests. Yesterday my mom had surgery on her right hand. She had the left one done last year, so this wasn’t something we expected to be difficult and it wasn’t. Of course, neither of us slept well and the idea of sitting in a waiting room full of strangers for hours absolutely horrified me. I was in the middle of a full blown anxiety attack and I couldn’t even take my medication, because I had to be the responsible adult to drive mom to and from her surgery. STOP LAUGHING! I can be a responsible adult…for one day!
Anyway, the nice part about it was that one friend reached out throughout the day to check on me and that meant a lot. When we got home, I got mom all settled in, and finally popped a Xanax and passed the fuck out. I woke up to messages from two friends just checking on me and it felt really nice. Too many people think they can truly separate SL and RL. Maybe some can, but it is impossible for me and I’m glad, because it’s the friends I have made in SL that have made the biggest difference in my life in the last few years.
Instead of hating on one another. Instead of judging one another. Let’s come together and support one another. Show the people you care about just how much you cherish them. Savor those memories. Just because they happen in a virtual world with pixel avatars, doesn’t make the feelings any less real…and they touch as just as deeply. So, if you have ever felt loved, shed a tear, or shared a laugh in SL…then stop the hate, embrace the love.

  1. Totally spot on. Real people with feelings that are as real as those we stand in front of.
My friends always check on me and it’s wonderful we can be there for each other.
